Skipper Sets Tongues Wagging At Sandown

EXCITING prospect Hara's Skipper will be one of the headline attractions on Warragul Cup night following his slashing Sandown Park victory on Sunday.

Scoring by an ever-widening 10 ¼ lengths, Hara's Skipper, a son of Sennachie and Hara's Annie, stopped the clock in a flying 29.19 for training combination Vicki Wisener and Glenn Rounds and owner Gary Pearce.

The powerhouse performance continued the grand stud upstart for Sennachie with Hara's Skipper from a litter which includes Group 2 Ipswich Cup hero Hara's Herbie.

"He's a big lump of a boy but he's got a big motor as he showed everyone yesterday," Glenn Rounds said following the whirlwind Sandown effort.

"He has a huge stride on him but for a big dog he's a really keen railer. He was drawn better yesterday and once he began like he did I knew he'd run some time. The time didn't really surprise me with what he's been showing."

Sunday's flying Sandown success extended Hara's Skipper's record to three wins and four placings from just the nine starts.

"He's 2 ½ so he's not young and only had the nine starts," Rounds said.

"But I think with him being the size he is it could be a blessing in disguise being so lightly raced early on. We've got his brother here as well Hara's Salty and he's a bit the same at 36 kilos.

"We gave him the one start at Bendigo in November but has been out since with a shoulder injury. He's got his share of ability as well."

Wisener and Rounds have earmarked a 1-4 wins series which begins at Warragul this Friday night as Hara's Skipper's most immediate target.

"It looks perfect for him," Rounds offered.

"It's in his win range and the final is at Sandown which gives him more experience there if he qualifies. Early on he had a testical out which was causing him some issues.

"He's showing plenty of ability and proven he can run the time but like all fast dogs it's whether they can stand up to the pressure in the bigger races.

"For now we'll just place him as best we can and let him work through his grades and find his mark.”

In the final race of the day Extreme Jewel scored for Wisener-Rounds in a sizzling 29.28.

Extreme Jewel, a winner of 12 races, is a litter sister to champion Wow She's Fast.
