Record: Wow She's Fast Roars Into Adelaide Cup

IT might have been worth only $7500 to the winner, but Wow She's Fast reeled off yet another million dollar performance on Thursday at Angle Park.

IT might have been worth only $7500 to the winner, but Wow She's Fast reeled off yet another million dollar performance when she smashed the Angle Park 530m track record winning the Match Race Challenge on Thursday night.

The My Bro Fabio-Fair Of Face bitch raced to a 29.86 record, eclipsing the 29.95 set by Aston Rupee in the same series last year.

And while the great bitch now goes straight into the Group 1 Adelaide Cup final there on October 7, training partners Kel and Jacquie Greenough are faced with a dilemma.

“The lure system at Angle Park is very, very quiet and dogs drawn wide must find it impossible to hear in the run-up,” said Kel today.

“But, my dilemma is do I trial the bitch back home in between the Match Race and the Cup final and subject her to a different lure system. It just may confuse the issue.”

Deep in Kel Greenough's mind is the fact superstar Aston Rupee won last year's Match Race in the track record 29.95, then drew box eight in the Cup final and finished fourth after missing the start.

“It had crossed my mind about trialling her again at Angle Park but bringing her back and forth four weeks in a row is not only tough on her, but tough on me,” said Kel.

Wow She's Fast reeled off super sections of 5.17, 17.37 and 12.49 to down Giant's Flash, the local who ran out of its skin for second, with Stout Monelli third.

“We never expect to break track records, but with this bitch that happens,” said Kel.

“To show you how good she is, we have a very, very good bitch called Levitation, a low 29.20 bitch at Sandown, and we trialled them together in the lead-up to this series.

“Wow She's Fast beat her seven lengths.”

Greenough said the track record performance was a bit unexpected.

“The track certainly was not on fire,” he said. “The surface was very wet and nothing else on the night in graded races ran any time.

“With the right conditions she could break it again.”

While Kel was naturally overjoyed with the bitch's performance, his wife, trainer Jacquie had “more important” things on her mind.

“She is a Cats fan and with them in the grand final on Saturday, that is uppermost in her thoughts at the moment,” he said.

The trip from Adelaide takes more than 10 hours but Greenough stays overnight after the race with Jack Savaglia.

“He has a wonderful set-up and has made our stay a very, very good one,” said Kel.

The track record and Match Race win adds to Wow She's Fast's career of victories in the G1 Sapphire Crown, G1 Maturity, The Phoenix, G3 Launching Pad and G3 Speed Star.

At 28.81 she is the fastest female ever at Sandown.

She has now raced just 20 times for 15 wins and $1.17 million.

Greenough had an instant “fix” for the near silent lure at Angle Park. “Some years ago, Sandown used the Bramich lure and it too was very, very quiet,” he said.

“They fixed that problem by having a recording of a seven-second run-up of a noisy lure over the public address. It worked perfectly. Eventually they removed the Bramich.”
