About PointsBet

PointsBet is an online bookmaker specialising in spread betting - making it the only bookie of its kind in Australia! In the crowded space of online wagering this is a key point of difference that gives them a big edge over the less differentiated offerings of the other corporates.

They are a disruption to the industry by offering proprietary Points Betting in addition to traditional markets, including traditional greyhound markets across a wide range of countries. One of the main strengths of PointsBet is the sheer number of unique and innovative markets they offer on local and international horse racing , greyhound racing, harness racing and sports. They offer more markets on NBA, AFL, ad NRL than any other bookie in the world.

Who Owns PointsBet?

PointsBet is a cutting edge Australian online bookmaker and tech company that launched in 2017. It is licensed in the Northern Territory by the Racing Commission and has major offices in Victoria and New South Wales. Pointsbet Australia Pty Ltd is the owning company.

PointsBet's founders are no strangers to the wagering industry with CEO Sam Swanell and COO Andrew Fahey both having worked for TomWaterhouse.com.

PointsBet Markets

PointsBet offers a full selection of horse racing, greyhound racing, harness racing and sports markets covering both Australian and International codes. Greyhound racing markets include:

- Fixed Win/Place
- Tote
- Trifecta
- First 4
- Quinella
- Exacta
- Quaddie

PointsBet doesn't feature specialist blogs and expert tips for greyhound racing like other bookmakers. But it does provide some quality form information for the dogs. Simply click on the runner and the site provides form (trainer/training details, last 10) and a detailed look at recent runs in a pop-up box. PointsBet also lists the four most recent results just below the colours of a runner so punters can quickly and easily see whether they want to invest their hard-earned without spending time going into the pop-up box for more depth.

When looking at the breadth of greyhound markets available on PointsBet, we weren't surprised to see the regular meetings in Australia/New Zealand, the UK and Ireland listed. But for something different, PointsBet also enables greyhound punters to back the dogs in Mexico as well!

Spread Betting

Spread Betting has been hugely popular in America, Europe and elsewhere but only just starting out here in Australia. It is certainly a form of betting that rewards knowledge and gives punters the opportunity to win significantly if their judgement is on the money. The flip side is that there is more risk in terms of losing your stake if a bet doesn't pan out as expected.

With Spread Betting (or Points Betting) the outcome of the bet is variable right up until the conclusion of the game or event and is a vastly different proposition to Fixed Odds betting where punters know at the time of placing their bet exactly how much they stand to win, and equally how much they are liable for in the transaction.

The more your selection is correct, the more you will win. The more your selection is wrong, the more you’ll lose. As an example, should you back Team A to beat Team B for $5 a point and they win by 10 points, you would win $50 ($5 x 10pts). Should Team A lose to Team B by 10 points you would lose $50 ($5 x $10).

Here's an example of how it works:
- You bet there will be over 200 points scored in an NBA game at a stake of $10
- The result is a total of 215 points scored
- You win 15 x $10 (your stake) = $150 (Conversely, if only 185 points had been scored you would have been liable for $150)

With spread betting you can make better use of your sporting knowledge than with fixed odds. With spread betting, how much you win or lose is determined by how accurate you are. The more right you are, the more you win but also the more a result goes against you, the more you can lose.

  • Can I bet once an event has started? Do you offer live betting?
At this stage, PointsBet do not offer Live Betting however they will be looking at doing this sometime in the future.

  • What are Pointsbet’s business hours?
